10 Great Green Things June 2008

10 Great Green Things June 2008

1. This video on making deserts fertile.  Here they are turning a small plot of super-arid land in the Middle East into an edible garden. Thank you Fungus!  ---->

2.  Project Pedal documentary.  The 21st Century Roadtrip. Go Sista!!!

3. FallenFruit.org - I'm waiting for us to start giving trees, once they reach a certain age and maturity, long social security numbers and just legal protection.  Sad thing is, by the time we start valuing and caring for our resources appropriately, this may not be an arduous task at all.  But really I think it's a crisis of consciousness above all else that will drive us to this end...  Spread the good word!

4. Co-Op America
It's like the green Yellow Pages.

5. BioPure.  The safest and healthiest possible way to clean.  It smells awesome!  I love it!! See the video ---->

7. Visit Amphibian Ark and check out the fabulous frog ring tones!

8.  This is a great resource for finding the Socially Responsible Credit card for you.  It truly amazes me how many good things are happening in the world sometimes.

9.  For an excellent pictoral explanation of the plastic bag problem click here.

10. Biodegradable bags that attach to the leash!  You will NEVER forget your doggie bags again.  I hate it when that happens.  I found these on eBay.  This is the style we have and I love it!  A black bone that matches the leash dispenses the biodegradable goodies. Very understated, very smart.

....or so I thought - until the dang bone dispencer thingy broke and now I forget the bags all the time again! Doh!!  I'm searching for a durable one...

They were so close.  =(

Top 10 Coolest Things I've Done or Found Recently:

1. Flock is the best browser I've ever used and has more features.  It  rocks!  It is the coolest thing about my week so far.  Click here to download it free or go to:

http://browser.flock.com/eco/treehugger/

2. Huddler.com - Awesome new site that has product reviews for green products.  This site is frickin' fabulous!

3. Digg.com  - Best source on the web for news.

4. Goodsearch.com  - Socially responsible search engine.  You choose the charity, they give per search donations to that charity.  VERY nice!!  I chose I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD).

5. Bought juicer, excellent juice book (The Juice and Zest Book - Anna Selby, Recipes for Healing & Vitality), and blender in anticipation of joining local organic CSA program.

6. Joined Be Wise Ranch CSA program and got second box of excellent produce last friday.

7. This pnn.com site is pretty cool and enn.com is an equally cool site with really good environmental news.  It's the Environmental News Network.

8.
Up with polyculture!! Down with monoculture!!  Please check out this article I sent on polyculture recently if you haven't read it already. Click here to see article.  We need to rapidly evolve from a primarily monoculture (one crop per field) based species to one that chiefly employs polyculture (planting many different crops in the same field) if we are to establish food security for humanity.

---Update:  Taking P+L+O+W to the next (high-tech) level with Vertical Farms.  Click here to read about it.

9. The Merry Hempster has a nice lip balm that is certified organic.  Although ONE Group's certified organic lip balm is also great, I hear, it is 4 times the quantity so this is more appropriate as a stocking stuffer, I think. About the same price per gram.

10. Very disturbing French documentary on Monsanto.  Click here to view.
